Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland causing urinary symptoms in older men. Clinical trials investigate new alpha-blockers, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, minimally invasive procedures, and combination therapies.
Frequent urination, urgency, weak urine stream, difficulty starting urination, dribbling after urination, nocturia (nighttime urination), straining to urinate
Age (over 40), family history, obesity, lack of exercise, diabetes, heart disease, erectile dysfunction
Treatment includes alpha-blockers (tamsulosin), 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (finasteride), and minimally invasive procedures (TURP, UroLift, Rezum). Clinical trials explore newer water vapor therapy techniques, implantable devices, and combination medical therapies.
BPH clinical trials help develop less invasive treatments with fewer side effects and better preservation of sexual function.
