Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition causing loss of pigment-producing cells leading to white patches on the skin. Clinical trials investigate topical JAK inhibitors, phototherapy combinations, and repigmentation therapies.
White patches of skin on various body areas, premature graying of hair, loss of color in mucous membranes, sensitivity to sunburn on depigmented areas
Family history, autoimmune conditions (thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes), certain genetic variants, stress, sunburn, chemical exposure
Treatment includes topical corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, phototherapy (narrowband UVB), excimer laser, and JAK inhibitors (ruxolitinib). Clinical trials explore melanocyte transplantation, topical ruxolitinib combinations, and immune-modulating agents.
Vitiligo clinical trials contribute to developing more effective repigmentation treatments and understanding the autoimmune mechanisms underlying pigment loss.
